O Rosa Bella
I have decided that as I blog items from the Renaissance Festival (RenFest) that it would seem apt to include some music and art from that period, so today's post is called 'O Rosa Bella' which means 'O Lovely Rose'. The title went perfectly with my photo today which was total coincidence as I did the photo and then found the piece of music to go with.
O Rosa Bella was written around 1400 by Johannes Ciconia, a Franco-Flemish composer, who worked mainly in Italy. The song reflects the heartbreak and pain of love which was an extremely popular theme in the 14th and 15th centuries. "This song describes courtly love, a formalised secret passion between aristocrats that was both erotic and spiritual, even morally uplifting."
The Renaissance Festival is now officially open and I am in awe of what the designers have created for this event. This is a dedicated event to benefit Strides Against Breast Cancer so please go and buy something and support this very worthwhile cause.
