You Heard It From Me

Excuse my lack of blogging, but yesterday I was pretty much accused of being linked to or the alt of a banned copybotter. The owner of a store I had visited IMed me to question me as to my motives for being at his store, and because he was wondering why his security system hadn't ejected me from his sim. I was shown a list of names that are my supposed 'alts' and, not surprisingly to me, I knew none of the names on the list. (Interesting Point #1: I found it amusing that I do have alts that I use for blogging and none were listed).

I was horrified that this supposed security group known as RedZone was linking me with a copybotter and that there was places in SL where I could possibly be ejected from for no reason.

I have never been a copybotter and wouldn't even know how to go about doing that. I pride myself on my honesty and this has really upset me. It makes me wonder who is looking at me on their sim and judging me for something I have not done. It also affects my integrity as a blogger, because who wants a suspected copybotter in their store?

I read a blog entry on RedZone and have serious doubts about their integrity, legitimacy and legality. It bothers me that so many people are relying on it and trusting the information they are feeding their customers. Take it from me, they are supplying false and inaccurate information and people are being hurt because of it.

According to LL Terms of Service:

"8.2 You will not post or transmit prohibited Content, including any Content that is illegal, harassing or violates any person's rights.

(iv) Post, display or transmit Content that is harmful, threatening or harassing, defamatory, libelous, false, inaccurate, misleading, or invades another person's privacy;"

Well, in my opinion RedZone is breaking these Terms of Service by making available lists of names that are defamatory, libelous, false, inaccurate, misleading and violating my rights and the rights of others! I contacted another name on the list and they are having the same battle and issues as me. It concerns me that they are supposedly accessing your IP address to make up their lists and supplying the names to users of their service. This is a blatant abuse of the TOS and an invasion of my privacy. (Interesting Fact #2: Apparently all 16 people on the list have the same IP address as me. Inaccurate much!)

If you are a store owner using this service, all I ask is that you read the information and make an informed decision as to whether you wish to continue using it.

For everyone else, make sure you turn off streaming media when you are not using it as RedZone's system uses this capability.

I wanted to let you know about this so that you can make up your own mind about me. I hope there are many store owners and creators and friends who will vouch for my honesty and sincerity.

I would also like to add: KNOW ME BEFORE YOU JUDGE ME OR TRUST LIES!

  1. *hugs* Arya. Thank you for blogging about this, people need to be made aware of the dubious nature of these products. Plus, anyone that knows you like I do, knows this is complete and utter garbage.

  3. Omg, would a copybotter really go around paying for clothes and the taking untold pictures of themselves and blogging them? I guess they don't know you like we do - a beautiful, friendly, honest person. These customers of theirs should beware too... you're promoting their store! No point upsetting the person that is helping... silly people. It's worrying as to how they've come up with that list of names too... I don't feel too safe with them around.

    *hugs* darling

  5. Honey, I will go into battle for you over this. It isn't however just you, as we all now know, there are a lot of people being unjustly banned from sims, and accused of copybotting who are honest and happy slers, just going around their daily business. RedZone makers don't appear to give a damn as long as their product sells, so lets spread the word. Lets tell it as it affects us. Store owners... get rid of this system, it will only cause you grief.

  6. Arya, I am so sorry this has happened to you. I know how you feel, as a nasty competitor or mine has accused me of this too and I feel sick for you. After our discussion yesterday I really believe the system is logging the ISP providers IP address and not the individuals address. Bigs hugs and lets hope it's sorted very soon x

  9. Thank you for drawing this to our attention, Arya. I really don't understand the copybotting issue at all, either technically or on an ethical level. I've been in SL for two years, spent around £200 on it, which is substantially less than I would have spent on purchasing a daily newspaper, and got tremendous fun from the game and met some terrific people from all around the globe. 90% of my wardrobe is probably freebies and dollarbies, and they still look fabulous. I've picked up free skins, furniture, every item I could ever wish for for next to nothing, and only ever really spent cash on either renting homes on and off, or on hair (I still think you have to pay for good hair).

And the idea of 'cheating', through copybotting, just seems so ridiculous.

The idea that YOU, someone aggregating so many of the FREEBIE and cheap items in SL would need to be involved in such a practice is just so ridiculous to be laughable. Keep up the good work Arya. I'm sure that I speak for many of us in saying that your blog is a daily visit when playing SL, and it's the likes of you that can make so much sense of the grid, and allow us to fully enjoy our SLs.

    Loads of love.
