Aw, Rats!

It is November 1st here in Aryaland.  See that flag behind me?  That is the official Aryaland flag.  Today, I am going to set you all right on what is going on here in Aryaland (or as other people strangely call it, New Zealand).

1.  Contrary to what FOX News is saying, we do NOT have COVID detention centres here.  NZers coming home or visitors (here for specific reasons) are required to stay in a 4 or 5 star hotel for 2 weeks upon arrival until they have had two clear COVID tests.  They are fed, looked after and can get out in the fresh air on the hotel grounds.

2. We have, sadly, had 25 deaths to COVID.  The low (although still tragic) number is because we, as a country, went into lockdown (Level 4) early on in March.  We spent 6 weeks at home.  Now we are out and about living life fairly normally but with contact tracing etc happening. We did have one resurgence, but this was only in one area which required them to do a partial-lockdown (Level 3) and the rest of the country had restrictions i.e. numbers allowed to gather etc.

3.  We are able to go to sports events with crowds, attend weddings or funerals, gather for parties, eat at restaurants and we even had an election where we could get out and vote.  Our hospitals currently have ZERO COVID patients in them and we have 2 active cases at home and 73 in the hotels (these are people who have come home from overseas).  

4.  Our country is not run by a fascist dictator.  We listened to the specialists and doctors.  They told us the truth and did not treat us like children. Hardly anyone of our 5 million population minded going into lockdown because we knew it was the best way to save the vulnerable people in our communities.  We did it because we care about the people around us and those we meet. Life here is as normal as it can be in a pandemic.  We are wary but free to travel within the country and enjoy all our beautiful land has to offer.
