Dona Gentile, Bella Come L'oro

Today's title is another Renaissance song which translates as 'noble lady, beautiful as gold'. It was written by Guillaume Dufay in 1475, so just a while ago.

I am not sure my character is a noble lady. She seems too tanned and healthy for wealthy living since the rich of that time believed that pale skin was a sign of wealth and beauty and that only the peasants, who worked the land, were tanned as they toiled under the sun.

Mind you, the powders that the nobility wore to make themselves pale contained arsenic, so they literally died for beauty which seems foolish to me, but each to their own.

You may have guessed already that I am sharing some more items from the Renaissance Festival. The venue looks amazing and is definitely worth a visit!
