Defender

A task long ago given

Whispered in the halls

that once heard music

and footsteps

"Defend the castle"

And I did

Even when they came

with swords and hate, 

fire and death

I fought until the embers died

And silence overcame

Even now

as the walls crumble

and succumb to time and ivy

Well after the dead are long buried

and the tears for the lost have dried

I will defend the castle
